REHEARSAL RENTALS 

BAX’s subsidized rehearsal space is made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts, with support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.  Please make sure to read all eligibility requirements carefully.

You are eligible to book at these subsidized rehearsal rates if you are:

  • an independent dance or theater artist or company
  • using the space for your dance, movement-based practice, or theater rehearsal for the creation and development of your work

Rehearsal hours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

BAX offers subsidized rehearsal space to artists at affordable rates, enabling them to deepen their practice, explore new ideas, and expand their artistry. Each year, we provide over 9,000 hours of low-cost rehearsal time across four well-maintained studios suitable for dance and theater in Park Slope, located at 421 Fifth Avenue, and our fully accessible Annex at 80 Hanson Place in downtown Brooklyn. These spaces serve more than 400 emerging, established, and self-producing choreographers, performance artists, and creators with embodied studio practices across a variety of genres, supporting artists at all stages of their careers and lives.

The BAX Building at 421 Fifth Avenue operates four studios, 7 days a week, typically 9:00 am to 10:00 pm Mon-Sat and 9:00am to 8:00pm Sun, with a planned two-week closure in late August for maintenance and select holidays. This location is managed by a dedicated full-time operations team.

The BAX Annex at 80 Hanson Place offers hourly rehearsals on weekdays, typically from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, as well as lock-out weeks and additional rental options, with expanded availability coming soon.

REHEARSAL RATES:

The BAX Building – 421 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope:

$10/hour Monday-Friday 9am-6pm

$16/hour Monday-Friday 6pm-10pm and Saturdays & Sundays 9am-10pm

*Rush Space (same-day booking) is $8/hour for current renters in good-standing. Please call (718) 832-0018 or email rentals@bax.org. Rush rehearsal space can not be booked online.

Renters can request additional amenities (e.g. tables, music stands, etc.) via this form. 

The BAX Annex – 80 Hanson Place, Downtown Brooklyn/Fort Greene:

$20/hour

A $25 Annual Maintenance Fee will be charged to all renters and valid at both locations.

Cancellations/Payments Policy:

Rental payments are non-refundable. Cancellations – or other changes – made at least 72 hours before each reservation may receive a credit for future bookings. For rehearsal inquiries or to cancel, please email rentals@bax.org.

*If we discover a renter has booked at the rehearsal rate for non-rehearsal purposes (ie, holding a public showing/invited rehearsals – informal or formal, holding a class or workshop or using it for public, monetary or non-artistic purposes), BAX reserves the right to request additional payment for the correct usage and/or revoke rental privileges.
