Lydia Jialu Li, Emerge 2025 Flagship

Lydia 黎珈璐 [Lí Jiā-Lù] (they/them) is a Beijing player, theatre creator, film actor, performing and teaching artist exported to the Indigenous Lands now known as the U.S. An English, Chinese, Japanese and emoji user. Brujx, buddhist, yogi and kenshi. Rape and domestic violence survivor. A living evidence of glocalization, feminism and radical imagination.

Lydia sits with the victories and struggles of their femme Chinese diaspora, listening to the smiles and tears ran out of old untold stories from our Grandmas.

They cook found and original text, sound, and movement across styles, languages and cultures, with eco-conscious costumes and objects choices, into a pulsating, kaleidoscopic, and shapeshifting theatrical journey. Channelling philosophies and practices beyond the performing arts disciplinaries, they create to answer the universe with a sensitive yet resilient, sensual yet truthful narrative in their trauma-informed and -inspired works, that are secreted, not synthesized.

By telling the stories of creation and erasure of young generations and fringe communities making personal and collective his/herstories, Lydia actively invites collaborators and audience into a party of time and space to re-access themselves, guiding our brothers to be better humans, and bringing our beloved dead sisters forward with us.
