Jean Vitrano
Space Grant (2000/2001)

JEAN VITRANO draws on her training in mindfulness practices, meditation and body therapies to assist her clients in living with greater peace, ease, and awareness. With an emphasis on assisting clients in discovering their own insight and wisdom, Jean invites curiosity, kindness, and compassion in everyone who seeks to live a mindful life. She creates safe communities for people to explore, listen, and share in deeper ways than we may do in our everyday interactions. Through her mindfulness-based work, Jean facilitates clients in pausing, sensing themselves, and helping them observe their thought and feeling patterns. Clients can get to know what is alive in themselves, how to stay present with themselves, and to remember what matters most. Insightful actions and ways of being emerge from this place of listening, awareness, and kind attention.

Jean has extensive experience working with the body and mind through years of training in meditation and mindfulness practices, therapeutic massage, movement awareness, and contemporary dance. She holds a BA from NYU and had a career as a professional contemporary dancer. She had a 20 year private practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist and is a graduate of the Feldenkrais Method Training Program. She has studied with Buddhist Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and has been influenced by the teachings of Tara Brach, Sharon Salzberg, Pema Chodron, and the work of Eugene Gendlin. Jean facilitates weekly meditation and mindfulness groups and offers online courses.

Jean lives with her partner Michael and teenage twins in Millburn, NJ. When they are not working on how best to serve the people who come to them, they enjoy walks in the woods, coffee dates, trips to upstate New York and Maine, and visits to the Jersey shore.
