This showcase features drag performances created by students of BAX Adult class “Drag Performance: Between & Beyond Gender,” facilitated by Kelindah Schuster aka Theydy Bedbug weekly on zoom since October. This class focuses on developing drag characters that expand what it means to be a drag queen, king, thing, in between or beyond what we’ve seen. Through group games, writing prompts and discussion, solo and collaborative movement exercises that explore the tools of pantomime, clowning, lip sync, caricature, structured improv and intuitive movement, students work towards developing 3-5 minute drag acts, culminating in this public showcase.
This performance is made possible with public support from New York State Council on the Arts.
