Presidents’ Week Arts Program (PWAP)
Families can register by day or for the full week and are assigned to one of two groups: the Nano BAXers (Kindergarten to 2nd grade) and the Mega/Giga BAXers (2nd grade to 5th grade). Each group has up to 30 children and is staffed by one Group Leader, one Senior Counselor, and two Junior Counselors.
Each day the Nano BAXers and Mega/Giga BAXers engage in daily exploratory themes through various arts specialties. Each morning, there is a workshop facilitated by a guest performing arts specialist. During the afternoon, there is a second workshop facilitated by a visual arts specialist, followed by an informal community share between the groups.
Program Staff
Our School Breaks Director, Andrew Jannetti is a full-time dance educator with the NYC DOE and the President of the New York State Dance Education Association. His choreography has been presented at venues throughout New York, and he has been teaching and directing programs at BAX since our doors opened in 1991.
Group core staff includes Group Leaders who are experienced early childhood and youth educators with a background in arts facilitation. Counselors are youth in high school, college or recent graduates with a background and early career interest in education and the arts. (Many of our counselors are former BAX students themselves!)
Guest arts specialists are professional artists who are highly experienced teaching artists, many of whom are on BAX’s regular teaching staff.
BAX is proud to have a high return of staff each year and has an excellent staff to child ratio (at least 1:6).
