Congratulations to BAX’s 2024 Teen Artist Exchange participants for an exceptional event this year!

Talented teen artists, workshop facilitators, and company directors from MCC Manhattan and Brooklyn Youth Companies, Irondale Young Company, Dancewave Youth Company, and BAX’s own Dance Performance Workshop ensembles (and beyond) came together for an afternoon of interactive workshops in:

Peer Leadership

Drag Performance

Hip Hop & the Art of Freestyle

Partner Acrobatics

Each teen company presented works-in-progress for each other and offered generous feedback in return; companies modeled different devising processes and exchanged resources, building a network among networks. This community of rising NYC artists embodied brave openness, compassion, and imagination that left all of us at BAX deeply inspired with promises of a more liberated future ahead!

For over 25 years Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s annual Teen Artist Exchange (formerly Teen Arts Conference) has provided teen performing artists (ages 13-18) across New York City with the opportunity to come together as part of a wider cultural community of learners and practitioners.

This free event for invited participants offers a range of theater, dance, and performance workshops as well as professional development, performance, and resource exchange opportunities.

Each year the conference engages in timeless and timely issues that intersect both our political and performance worlds. This year, we are again offering a lens to frame and unify our time together throughout the conference. We will look at the ways our creative practices can be used intentionally as a vehicle for social justice and activism, and, in particular, to address systemic racism in the United States. We’ll also connect our generative processes to our ability to imagine and act towards change; art as a vehicle to inspire and manifest the alternative world we want to live in.
