Aviya Hernstadt

BAX Teaching Artist

Aviya Hernstadt (she/her) is a multimedia performance artist, dancer, educator, and proud New York Jew. She has taught dance with Wingspan Arts and teaches Creative Judaism with The School for Creative Judaism. Her approach to teaching is grounded in the curiosity and silliness that children exude, and she centers her student’s voices in these creative spaces. Through working with children, she has learned to hold the bountiful harmony between seriousness and play. She brings this into her performance work, where she uses movement, autobiography, comedy, and sculpture to explore ritual and tradition in a contemporary context. Aviya is excited to join the BAX Faculty and expand her relationship with the community!
