Andrew Gilchrist (he/him) originally hails from Kansas City and is currently based in Southern California by way of Brooklyn, NY. His thesis film for the California Institute of the Arts’ MFA Film Directing program, Color my Fortune, premiered in May 2019 at Redcat. In March 2024, he participated in the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab with co-writer Eirini Vianelli, to workshop their screenplay Human Negligence. Human Negligence is currently in pre-production with Heretic, the renowned Greek production company behind many recent, critically acclaimed films. He was an associate producer and portrayed the Landlord in Josephine Decker’s short film Rise, Again, commissioned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, which premiered in October 2022. As a practitioner in the New York avant-garde theater and performance world for many years, his work has shown at the Louvre Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, St. Mark’s Theater and the Performing Garage, among many others. As a performer, he toured with The Life and Death of Marina Abramović, featuring Abramović and Willem Dafoe, directed by Robert Wilson, with music by Anohni. He also performed in Laurie Anderson’s video installation, The Gray Rabbit, which premiered at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary during January 2013. He received a B.A. from Bard College in theatre, where his advisor was JoAnne Akalaitis. In 2019, he graduated with an MFA in film directing from California Institute of the Arts.
