Youth Classes

Taught by professionally trained faculty, BAX Youth Education classes provide expert instruction in building technical skills in Dance, Drama, and Tumbling. BAX students develop improvisation, original composition, and performance skills, while working independently and in collaboration. Our classes are developmentally appropriate and ensure that each child is challenged and supported.

As of September 7, 2021, in accordance with the “Key To NYC Pass,” proof of vaccination will be required for all who are eligible (currently ages 12+) to enter the BAX Building. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status.

Class Description

Drawing from partner acrobatics and fundamental gymnastics exercises, this class explores basic locomotive and body coordination skills. Students learn forward rolls, logrolls, bear and crab walks, skip, chase and gallop, and engage in basic stretching and strength work.

Using exercises from partner acrobatics and gymnastics, this class supports fundamental motor-skills and challenges students to support their own weight in new ways with handstands, headstands and arm stands, explore balances and lifts alone and with partners, and learn tumbling sequences of rolling and flipping.

Class Description

In this playful setting, young artists enjoy creative play, imagination, and the process of working collectively, including walking field trips in the neighborhood and to local parks to find inspiration in the world around us. Students explore, experiment, and devise using their bodies, emotions, and imaginations. Performance helps to build a sense of teamwork, taking turns, and harnessing individual energy for creative group fun.

Participants will use elements of composition, perspective, frame, camera movement, lighting, editing, and more, to develop tangible dance technique, choreography, and improvisation skills with the frame of the screen as your ally and inspiration.
